I think the propaganda of great state projects is actually a big part of the Elon-Trump agenda. They have both the project of putting a man on Mars and the project of making America the leader in AI engineering to narratively leverage.

The whole section on court intellectual conservatives like Deenen is spot. To crib Henderson's terminology it's all luxury beliefs, or maybe it's just intellectual padding to appease certain figures. I think the conversation also clarified fascism to me as power, for power's sake. You can backfill any ideology after the fact, but the goal is maximum power principle.
There's so much in here. Think there's a lot more to be said about 'rug pull culture'. Everything is rug pull, everything is a scam. Crypto is just a pure distillation of this mentality as it can be scaled and executed quickly and for great profit.
I've been thinking a lot about the bait and switch screeds and manifestos of figures like Andreessen, Zuckerberg's Meta pap and Chamath's faux populist speeches. It's so easy to galvanise people through anger, just say the right things, blame the right people and then do whatever you want.
