A commercialized but ultimately earnest form of chauvinistic masculinity is seen as a way to reach new markets so tech nerds attempt to acquire the symbol and aesthetic of said masculinity in order to sell it back to himbos as a collection of empty signifiers of what masculinity (supposedly) was in the past?

I mean, what other year would it have made MORE sense for the Brocoli’s to broker this deal with Amazon?

> "To friends, Broccoli has characterized her thoughts on Amazon this way: “These people are f— idiots.” […] Broccoli has complained that Amazon isn’t a good home for Bond, since the company’s core business is selling everything from toilet paper to vacuums—a perspective Amazon executives find unfair."

LoL -- Amazon, the purveyors of quality. As Barnum of Barnum and Bailey (?) once quipped, "No one ever went broke underestimating the tastes of the American public."

Though I recollect that some wag argued that the failure of some extreme sports league there disproved that thesis.

Now that I think of it, Bond-as-content has been true for decades. I know multiple men who know all the cars, watches and jacket brands that Bond wears…and no other cars, watches or jacket brands besides (except what’s on display in the mall). Makes me laugh if people feel that they’re losing some kind of hallowed cinematic name.

Can we even tell the difference between a Rolex Submariner and a CEYADG Pagani Design Men's Watches Japanese Automatic Mechanical 40mm Sport Waterproof Stainless Steel Sapphire Glass Wrist Watch!? (ironically, Chinese Watch-heads know San Martin makes the best “homage”)

So the future X-Rays for Bond will directly link to a laser cutter for purchase?

Have you kept up with or found out about the crypto story in Argentina? Not sure how much there is in English, but the basic gist is that someone developed a memecoin or shit coin and convince the president (the guy who inspired Elon Musk to waive a chain saw around at CPAC) to promote it and link to a buy page on X. In just a day the price went up to a staggering amount and then crashed completely. A lot of people posted about losing thousands on it. And it seems one small group of people (probably the developers) walked away with something like 87 million dollars. The political opposition has been talking about it the whole week. It’s hard to know exactly the political effect yet, but I imagine the turn against crypto will be when enough of these stories affect enough people or create a sense of disaster that “normal people” will start asking what is to be done. (The story also lasted longer than a couple of days because of the not great PR spin/ message management. One of the main news channels aired the unedited version of an interview with the president. In it, the President stops to one of his advisors how he should answer a question. And the interviewer tells him on camera that they’d edit that part out).
